Exhibition Dates: November 8 - December 22, 2012

Artist's Reception:
Thursday, November 8
6:00- 9:00 pm

In this series of photographs of Therry Cohen we believe we see a starry night over cities, but it is exactly the reverse. These are the skies we do not see.

These photographs are a composite images, but are quite the intentioned creations. The artist does not just borrow any segment of sky to mesh with his cityscapes, rather travels to another location- somewhere remote- that rests on the same latitude as his intended city. The artist trekked to the deserts most notably, including the Atacama and Mojave deserts. Using the same angle and careful marking of place, Cohen manages to reveal to us the sky as it would be in Rio, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong-Kong or Paris. The effect is delightful and poignant- if the cities of man did not disrupt the celestial beauty of the night sky with their light and atmospheric pollution what grand evening views they would have. The resulting frames are magical.
