Mitch Dobrowner Awarded 2012 Sony World Photographer of the Year

Dobrowner's work was selected from 112,000 submissions and artists in 171 different countries

The work of Dobrowner is memorable, and it is easy to believe Dobrowner when he says that landscapes are living ecosystems. His works burst with energy, breath with force. The black and white prints of Dobrowner capture the raw power of nature. The Storms series is fierce and seems at times apocalyptic- the sky dumps rain, twisters curl and tear the plane, clouds open the sky and pour rain or ripple and flow thick and heavy like water on a beach. His Urban series intensifies these feelings, especially when man's cities are dwarfed by the awesome power of nature. These pieces remind us of our impermanence and of nature's endurance. So too does Dobrowner's Land series- a sense of everlasting life is infused into the form and composition of his frames. Mountain peeks stand like sirens beautiful and sharp, lone trees and groves feel to have fleeting but delicate life amongst the rough surroundings that we feel sure have existed since the dawn of time.

Dobrowner's work certainly merits the honor of this international award.
