Legend in Photojournalism Passes at 99
Last week just
shy of her 100th birthday Eve Arnold, a highly noted photojournalist,
passed. One of Magnum Photos first women members, Arnold's work
regularly appeared in Time and Life magazines and she was often the
source of the stories' inspiration. Arnold was curious about people, and
while some say her inspiration was found in the extremes- in the rich
and famous or the poor anonymous it was not true. Perhaps disparities
offered a spark of interest or fed flames of a narrative to be explored,
but to Arnold it was humanity she was interested in- in all people and
their underlying equity.
Her contribution to photography will live on through her work.
