Elene Usdin - Moi déguisée en Joséphine de Beauharnais,

of this year's Photo d'Hôtel, Photo d'Auteur, now in its fifth year,
went to Elene Usdi. Usdi graduated from the l'Écoledes Arts Décoratifs
de Paris en 1996 and turned little by little towards photography in the
early 2000's engaging in a series of self portraits. To better
understand her environments she disguised herself seeking personalities
that emerged from the spaces around her. This approach to working was
put to work with great affect and this year won her the Photo d'Hôtel,
Photo d'Auteur first prize.
Each month of the past year young artists were invited to spend an
evening in one of the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche to create a unique work
inspired by their visit. Artists are granted access to guest rooms and
halls for one month to execute works that will become their submission.
The range of images is stunning, each voice comes through clear and
strong and all are worthy of attention.
With notable judges like Guillaume Morel, connaissance des arts; Marc
Pussemier from La Librairie photographique; Paul-Louis Roubert from la
Société Française de Photographie; and Esther Woerdehoff, Galelrist, the
honor of being chosen is of high compliment.
