In the absence of an audience, how does artwork function? This is question is at the center of Gregory Vershbow's series Art in a Liminal Space. Vershbow explores the basements, storage spaces, and restoration sites of artwork. Even in the space between exhibitions, when surrounded with scaffolding or wrapped in package the power, beauty, and grandeur of the art persists. The potency of the work even when partially concealed or obstructed from view resonates in a powerful way. We feel to have a private moment with the art object and an intimacy unusually enjoyed. Our curiosity is heightened by our inability to fully access the works.

A recent MFA graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Vershbow has already enjoyed success, has exhibited along the East Coast and is among the J. Paul Getty, Boston Athaneum, and Art Institute of Chicago's permanent collections.
