Irving Penn: Archaeology

Through January 15, 2011

The six decade career of Irving Penn was as as broad as profound; Penn worked in commercial and editorial genres as well as for himself. Twenty little seen platinum prints compose the show at Pace/MacGill. The series of still lives engage the classic vanitas theme objects used in the frames had been collected by the artist for years. The images were made with an altered banquet camera and the prints themselves took a year of work.

Mention in the New Yorker.

Lalla A. Essaydi
LFM REVISITED #7, 2010
C-Print
Available in 30x40 & 48x60 in.

The new work by Moroccan artist Lalla Essaydi is lush and beautiful; it is in keeping with her previous series yet quite distinct. Text is written with henna over the bodies of the women, and the figures's draping does blend into their surroundings, but now in an array of mosaic tile.

iseeyou

Through December 24, 2010

Of the four bodies of work by German photographer Michael Wolf most focal and critical are his Google Streetviews. The enlarged grainy images may leave us a bit unsettled as we reflect on questions, borders, and boundaries of public verses private moments.

New Yorker Mention.

Review: Christian Cravo at Throckmorton

In the Gardens of Eden

Through January 8, 2011

Brazilian photographer Christian Cravo captures visions of Haiti. In true tradition of Haitian culture are layers of duality and hybridity- Christianity infused with traditional African religious practice. Images in this exhibition depict sacred spaces- waterfalls and caves and the religious celebrations for which they are cathedrals.

New Yorker mention.
