Though security is tight and tension remains high, reopening is sign of a return to normalcy.
Assyrin and Islamic exhibitions have been
reinstalled and sections of the museum have been open to a limited
public- available to VIP's and invited guests only- since 2008. Since
its creation the museum has seldom had its doors open. Closures for the
Gulf War through April 2000 and again in 2002 prior to another wave of
invasion. Museum Director, Amira Edan, enthusiastically awaits official
reopening this March.
