Photographer Milton Rogovin Dies

Social Documentary Photographer Dies at 101

Rogovin was Optometrist turned photographer after being blacklisted in the 1950's Communist Scare. He became known for photographing who he called "the forgotten ones." Rogovin traveled the world and captured subjects close to home, and always used his vintage Rolleiflex, black and white film, and a flash bulb. Never out to capture history or make monumental work, the photographer was most interested in making images that bore witness to the different stories of working men and women. The length of his life and breath of his work certainly did achieve monumentality; the Center of Creative Photography holds 4,000 images, and the Library of congress all his negatives, notes, and a selection of prints.
