Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Director for nearly 30 years looses battle with cancer.
Peter C. Marzio was the museum's longest-serving
director. Marzio was a driving force for the museum; the permanent
collection grew in size and focus. Artworks acquired under his
direction nearly quadrupled the museum's holdings, and their origin grew
beyond the mainstream Western voice. Notable accomplishments include a
donation of pre-Columbian and Indonesian gold; additional areas of
focus for collection and exhibition- Asian and Latin American artworks;
growth in attendance, membership, and budget.
