I

have never seen an exhibition unmake its own argument as openly as "Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams: Natural Affinities" does. The show, organized by the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, N.M., stakes everything on resemblances between some of her paintings, or compositional decisions, and some of his photographs.

The "natural affinities" of the show's title refer to similarities in temperament as well as in the artists' respective searches for subjects or motifs in nature.

The irony is that Adams emerges from the two-person survey looking like the greater artist, the one who understood his tools and opportunities more profoundly.

Read the complete review in The San Francisco Chronicle.
