Lecture: Tod Papageorge – The Making of the Photographer
Central Park, New York, 1991 © Tod Papageorge courtesy Pace/MacGill Gallery, New York / Michael Hoppen ContemporaryHis discussion will include an examination of four different bodies of work, including those outlined in his two recently published monographs, as well as early street photographs made in Manhattan and a group of pictures produced over several decades in Paris. As one of the putative "last photographic heroes", as characterized by Gilles Mora in his recent book of the same title about American photographers of the sixties and seventies, Papageorge's talk should be particularly informative for anyone interested in recent history of American creative photography.
