Lauren Greenfield has become one of America's foremost chroniclers of what she calls "girl culture." With a sharp documentary eye attuned to gesture and expression and an ability to infiltrate settings as diverse as strip clubs, high-school bedrooms, and five-star resorts, she has produced an unflinching study of the social pressures faced by American girls and women. In her books Fast Forward: Growing up in the Shadow of Hollywood, Girl Culture, and Thin, as well as in the many popular journals in which her work is featured, she provides a new point of view for documentary photography. Greenfield is a member of VII, a Paris-based photojournalist cooperative founded by James Nachtwey and others to record the changes of society and culture worldwide.
