Metzker, Courtesy Laurence Miller Gallery, New York"Wanderings," a group of black-and-white photographs made between 1969 and 2008, may not be Metzker at his best, but that's only because he's already set the bar so high. Since the pictures here do not belong to any of the many more original and sophisticated series he produced in this same period, they might feel at first like strays or afterthoughts. But look again: Metzker's eye is rarely off, and even the least of these images has some element of surprise, some flash of brilliance.
