Esko Männikkö at Yancey Richardson

This Finnish photographer is known as much for his installation style as for his images, but both are distinctive.

He displays his work in mismatched carved wood frames (in this case, heavy, dark ones he made himself) that are hung side by side in a continuous row around the gallery. The strategy is especially effective for Männikkö's new pictures of animals—horses, elephants, monkeys, and birds seen in saturated color and at very close range.
