In Mise en Abyme Laval returns to a favorite subject, the swimming pool. Figures and light shimmer in large-scale painterly tableaux. The palate is saturated rendering our sensation dreamlike and the tone of the work moves fluidly between representation and abstraction, real and surreal. Smaller reflection pieces invert and push us between sensations, orientations, and states of mind.
