Pictorialist Heinrich Kühn's first major retrospective opens in Houston after showing in Vienna and Paris. Like the American photography pioneers Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen, Kühn worked to push the media of photography into the spotlight and earn it recognition as an art form in itself. His work shows mastery of the evolving medium and he produced effects which mimicked the feel of impressionist paintings, etchings, and charcoal drawings.
