Paul Grahm at Whitechapel Gallery
Photographs 1981 - 2006
Through June 19, 2011
As a mirror to our world Paul Graham has worked within a documentary approach, capturing the unseen lying just behind the surface. "Concealment," the artist has said, "has run through [his] work."
People and places anchor any documentary photographer, but Graham adds a dynamic cinematic angle to his subjects. Borrowed from American giants like William Eggelston, the journey, the road trip, the total immersion helped to put Graham in-tune with the subtleties of each of his subjects in Europe, Japan, and America.
Works from nine series from 1981 - 2006 are on exhibition; extensive color catalogue available.
For more on the exhibition visit White Chapel Gallery.
