Taken at visitor center's at the edge of the wilderness the images examine nature as a human construct. How has the hand of man intervened and invented the concept of nature? We find ourselves contemplating how the image itself has become the vehicle for our most frequent engagement with nature and the natural world. Humor enters as Lopore undoes the underpinnings of this now typical human encounter with nature by photographing and revealing the diorama for what it is- a representation of nature as seen by man.
Night birds captures two small birds in flight against a sheer rockfase, but in the evening sky overhead we see a bare bulb and smoke detector. In Cooler we see a pristine expanse of mountain range and a pine tree lined mirrored lake, but the secret too is exposed by white wheels at the image base and an electrical outlet. Other works juxtapose the natural against the man-made; Mud Flat and Salt Carpet are so tactile that we feel they must be collage, but the artist works only within the parameters of the 4x5 camera, so again truth of the natural and the construct is muddled cleverly.
