Review: George Platt Lynes at Throckmorton
Through September 10, 2011
Taken out of the closet, and out of cold storaga from Kinsey Institute are the work of George Platt Lynes. The male nudes that steal the show now on at Throckmorton were less known even to his family than his ballet images, surreal-inspired compositions, or portraits. Our greater comfort for the sexual male figure even with homoerotic undertones has allowed these works the appreciation they deserve- they are elegant, bold, enticing. For New Yorkers this is a not to miss, for those out of town, visit the exhibition video with interviews or order the book online.
