Pace/MacGill Gallery In collaboration with MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department at the School of Visual Arts to expose artists who incorporate art into the Social Media landscape. These works examine how social media shapes our communication, perception, and interaction. Photography has an immediate nature inherent in its process- the flash of a shutter capturing a moment in time. The communicability and democratic nature of the photographic process also lends itself to the new means of social communication. Roots related to dispersal, print, and press translate effortlessly to the digital age of immediate and widespread communication. Appropriated images, jabs at Apps, QR-codes read by smart phones to search digital representations of individuals and more to be displayed. Much of the work is grounded in photography, but the frame is pushed to other media that rely on image, video, technology, and installation.

Artists Miranda July, David Byrne, Penelope Umbrico and Aram Bartholl will be present at the Public Opening Sept. 15. Exhibition on view at 510 West 25th Street
