Gray Briechle, Untitled, 2010 , Courtesy of Edelman GalleryLight as brilliant as silver and shadow as dark as ink flow smooth over the portraits and fragments of friends, family, and strangers in the works of Gray Briechle. The artist employs a rarely used 19th century wet-plate process, the Collodion. The result of Briechle's works is striking and memorable, brooding with intrigue and infused with intimacy. These are the real moments of life: the delicate beginnings, the resilience of youth, the ferocity of pubescence, and the weathering of age. We are captivated, stopped dead in our tracks by the moments caught. Briechle's work is true humanity framed- the real, the raw, the beautiful and even cruel nature of life.
