Bert Danckaert's works are clean, crisp, quiet, void of human presence. The work is coolness not cold, stark yet rhythmic, banal but strangely humerus. Danckaert opens the display of his series online with a quote by Anton Chekhov, "Any idiot can face a crisis; it is this day-to-day living that wears you out."
This sets the tone for the work; though not grand these are the spaces of our every day. Looking at the city's names we begin to get the joke; Danckaert has traveled to New York, Beijing, Paris, Cape Town, Madrid and other cities of prestige and elegance to make images that are very every day. This is our shared experience- these frames are what most of us live with every day, a standardized urbanization.
